Overview
UniMate is a groundbreaking, unified model that redefines text-to-animation by enabling the generation of diverse skeletal animations from a single, cohesive framework. Accepted to SIGGRAPH Asia 2026, UniMate tackles the long-standing challenge of animating a wide variety of character topologies without requiring per-skeleton retraining or complex test-time optimization. This project introduces the UniML3D dataset, a comprehensive collection of motion sequences across bipedal, quadrupedal, avian, marine, insectoid, serpentine, and articulated rigid objects, all harmonized into a canonical representation.
Key Features
- Universal Animation Capability: Animate virtually any skeleton with a single, pre-trained model, eliminating the need for specialized animation models for different character types.
- Diverse Skeleton Support: Built upon the extensive UniML3D dataset, UniMate has been trained on a vast array of skeletal structures, from common humanoids to complex animal and even mechanical forms.
- Text-Guided Generation: Generate animations directly from descriptive text prompts, offering intuitive control over character motion.
- Efficient Inference: Achieves real-time animation generation with no per-skeleton retraining or computationally intensive test-time optimization.
- Advanced Applications: Beyond standard text-to-animation, UniMate supports sophisticated tasks like motion in-betweening, text-guided motion editing, and seamless motion expansion/chaining.
- Open-Source Ecosystem: Provides released code, checkpoints via Hugging Face, a comprehensive dataset, and an interactive demo for easy exploration and adoption.
